RP Outline
Make a Healthier Life: Organic Food
I. Introduction
A. Opening: Nowadays people concerns more about their body health while the food becomes more and more unsafe. It is dangerous to eat chicken because we may get H5N1 Disease. Eating pork is also full of risks because we may get Foot-And-Mouth Disease. Beef is related to Mad Cow Disease. Even vegetables can be poisonous with pesticides. So what else can we eat?
B. Thesis Statement: Organic food is a good choice to human’s body health and even to the environment.
II. Definition of ‘organic food’
Organic food is food produced according to organic standards, which means crops grown without the use of conventional pesticides, artificial fertilizers, antibiotics and so on. Instead, it contains more vitamins and nutrients than the inorganic one.
III. How is organic food different from GM (Genetically Modified) food? How to identify organic food?
IV. Benefits of taking organic food
A. For the consumers
1. Fresh organic produce contains on average 50% more vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other micro-nutrients than intensively farmed produce.
2. Organic produce is not covered in a cocktail of poisonous chemicals. The average conventionally-grown product has 20-30 artificial poisons on its skin, even after rinsing.
B. For the producers
Intensive farming can seriously damage farm workers' health. There are much higher instances of cancer, respiratory problems and other major diseases in farm workers from non-organic farms. This is particularly true in developing countries.
C. For the environment
Organic farms support and nurture our beautiful and diverse wildlife. Intensive farming usually leads to erosion of the soil, resulting in the destruction of natural environment and even animals.
V. Disadvantages of organic food
A. Price
It is more expensive than the inorganic one.
B. Efficiency of organic farms
Organic farms are usually small farms, and they produce crops in a slower speed when compare to the inorganic farms.
VI. Conclusion
It is still better to choose organic food. Agro-chemicals were not developed with nutrition, taste or the ecology in mind. The chemical designers' remit was to make mass production of food cheaper. So what we get is a cheap but inferior product. On the other side, organic food sounds healthier. It will be packed with up to 60% more vitamins, minerals, enzymes and trace nutrients, and be free from 40 different chemicals and insecticides. It is worth paying a little more bit for organic product if we concern our body health.
